David Levy – Until such a time – Nov 20

The reality of waste service providers is that they run the show.

Not all the good will in the world, or soundness of reason, will deviate them from the strangle hold which hold they exert over our local authorities, politicians or legislation.

Why?   Because if the waste service providers don’t want to do it, it won’t get done.

That is the reality.   It can be seen in all decision-making, ranging from the approval of a London incinerator to a national waste service provider actually selling off its recycling arm because it’s not profitable.

In Wiltshire, despite opposition from the public to an incinerator being built in Westbury the politicians of the local council are gutlessly conceding to the will of the company.

Could this be because they have no solutions, other than building what is so unpopular?

This is the predicament we face when we have a waste management system where there is no closed-loop thinking and when the operators have to retro fit back-end solutions which are piecemeal and uneconomic.

Even the Mayor of London is forced to back down and grant a new London incinerator.   That’s because he would be held to account for the poor economic outcomes which the waste companies say will otherwise happen.
