DEFRA/ISA Consultation Invitation

Lekha Prakasan (email hidden; JavaScript is required telephone 020-7238 4691) of DEFRA’s (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) Marine Programme has just sent to us the following invitation for stakeholders to a consultation by the International Seabed Authority (ISA).

Dear Stakeholder,

Defra would like to invite you to respond to a consultation by the International Seabed Authority (ISA) on ‘Developing a Regulatory Framework for Mineral Exploitation in the Area’.

You can find the consultation on the ISA website at: http://isa.org.jm/files/documents/EN/Survey/ISA-SSurvey.pdf

In its preliminary work, the ISA has identified the following focus areas in which it seeks your initial input and comment. It is not necessary to respond to all parts and all questions. However, each core area does have overlapping obligations:

· Part A – Financial terms and obligations

· Part B – Environmental management terms and obligations

· Part C – Health and safety and maritime security

· Part D – General considerations – stakeholder communication and transparency

This consultation is the first stage of a programme of stakeholder engagement by the ISA.

Please respond to ISA directly, either by post or electronically, as follows:
