Dredging equations

In a quest to find some realistic and meaningful comparisons for the 230,000,000 tonnes ( 143 Million cubic metres ) of aggregates so far dredged offshore to Great Yarmouth alone, here are what are some rather surprising facts that came forth from members of our local coastal group:-

  1. The volume dug out to create the Panama Canal.
  2. 23 times the total excavated for the Channel Tunnel.
  3. 5470 times the volume of the Titanic’s hull.
  4. Enough to fill Trafalgar square to a depth of 6217 metres. (Note – Nelsons column is 51 metres tall).

And the authorities that so readily issue the licences to continue to dredge still deny any impact upon the coastline!
