Help Australia stop the Super-trawler

Rebecca of of and the GetUp team of Australia are asking for our support in lobbying Federal Fisheries Minister Joe Ludwig to oppose licensing the worlds second largest super trawler to fish in Australian waters.

It fishes for the target species mackeral and redbait with nets whose mouth stretches up to 100 meters high, 200m meters wide and 600m long, but vacuuming up everything in its path so killing dolphins, seals, migratory sea birds and other protected species. The catch allowed if permission is given would be 18,000 tonnes of fish!

Already the team have placed the following advertisement in the Australian press, the photo used of the typical catch provided by Greenpeace, taken by a fisheries researcher whilst on board another Dutch owned super trawler fishing off Mauritania in 2006.
