Scottish Fishermen launch “Fishing for Leave” EU Referendum campaign

The organisation, “Fishing for Leave” in Scotland has issued the following Mission Statement:

Mission

‘Fishing for Leave’ is an independent campaign set up by people in the fishing industry for the fishing industry.
The objectives of this campaign are:

  • To Campaign Vociferously for British Withdrawal from the European Union to allow the restoration of sovereignty to the British Parliament and with that national control over the 200nm limit and all waters and resources therein.
  • To raise public awareness of the surrender of a valuable national resource and the ensuing decimation and plight wrought upon British fishing and dependant coastal communities.
  • To ensure in the event of a leave vote that, in the ensuing British withdrawal malevolent interests are held to account, and not One Ton of British fish is bartered away in the extrication process.

Therefore we aim to organise and mobilise the industry to campaign by all means available and necessary to further the above.

We aim to highlight the achievements, dynamism and determination of the British industry and to inform the British public how much better things could, and should, be if our country were free to reach our potential outside the control of the EU.

We will detail the devastation wrought to the British fishing industry by the EU and show the betrayal of a critical national resource to a public, who remain largely unaware of this national tragedy. In undertaking this mission we aim to feed support and momentum to the wider ‘Brexit’ campaign.

Support

We will be working in conjunction with the main players and parties in the Leave campaign through mutual co-operation and support to get our voices heard across the public diaspora.

The Fishing for Leave campaign has already established a team from all round Britain, representing every sector, to provide a national campaign for the whole fishing and seafood industry to liaise with.

The campaign will not only convey the hard figures of the state of the industry and its fleet but will also show the shore sector and the rural coastal community socio economic aspect which the industry underpins.

Fishing for Leave aims to be an umbrella for the entire British industry to unite behind and very publicly announce: “We’re not going to take it anymore!”

For too long Britain has been made to beg for the scraps of our own fish from the EU table.

Therefore we appeal to each and every boat, business and individual to sign up to support and assist Fishing for Leave. Let us go forward together with this campaign to unite the industry under a broad banner.

To use our collective strength to fight to free our country and in doing so Save Britain’s Fish. It’s with your support we can turn this into a great thing.

Please do so because in words more evocative than ours:

Now’s the day, and now’s the hour
See the front of battle lour
See approach proud Brussel’s power –
Chains and slavery!

Who will be a traitor knave?
Who can fill a coward’s grave?
Who sae base as be a slave?
Let him turn and flee!

Who for Britain’s Queen and Law
Freedoms sword will strongly draw
Freeman stand or freeman fall,
Let him fall wi me!

By Oppression’s woes and pains
By your sons in servile chains
We will drain our dearest veins
But they shall be free!

Lay the proud usurpers low!
Tyrants fall in every foe!
Liberty’s in every blow!
Let us do, or dee!
