David Levy – Christmas 2024/New Year 2025 : The UK’s Water Industry – December 24
Revealed by Ofwat, our bills for water are going up and not by a small amount either.
This organisation tasked with overseeing water companies has for years stood by and watched the deteriorating infrastructure within this industry along with the constant paying out of dividends to the owners: shareholders, company directors and portfolio holders – and all without saying a word to halt this debacle. They now have the gall to push the responsibility onto us, and say we have to pay for this state of affairs.
Not one director has repaid any money after receiving bonuses amounting to millions of £’s despite company poor performance often covered up by creative accounting.
Not one penny has been repaid by the owners, and they are not going to invest any money to get the industry fit for the 21st Century
Not one person has been held accountable within the Ministry, Defra, for allowing this situation to develop. Most importantly, it remains unreformed even though we all know it is not fit for purpose.
Also a major polluter of river quality is caused by animal waste contamination. Animal waste is spread on the fields, rather than being collected for the extraction of fertilisers (nitrates and phosphates), and nothing is being done on the national commercial level to change this.
That is because the politicians are following the advice of their Civil Servants who have ‘house trained’ their Ministers, and both move with the urgency of a tortoise and do little to bring forward immediate solutions.
Maybe they think they have decades to play with.
They pretend they are getting to grips with the problem, but all they do is ‘make do and mend’ – plasters for gaping wounds, and small scale, low investment ideas.
It makes me mad and I am seriously considering not paying my increased water bill until something changes.
I am sick of being taken for a sheep. I am sick of the lies, the fraud and most of all having my health threatened by those in authority who should be protecting it.
Unless people start standing up for basic rights and cause the system to change, we will constantly be treated in this way.
