David Levy – It’s Time Folks for Solutions – Oct 21

Today I had an interesting conversation with our Co-ordinator, Stephen, who was defending the current energy situation as a result of unpredictable free trade occurrences.   Stephen will forgive me if I say hogwash — and here is my solution for this never happening to us again.

What we share and both know is that all countries operate with their self-interests always front and centre.

We have witnessed that when it came to the Common Fisheries Policy and quotas.   No abiding with the law, just take what you need.   So when it comes to Brexit, or even criticising Russia for abuses in and out of their country, what we can expect is for there to be some tantrums and punitive punishment to come back from them.

What is clear: we have not prepared for that contingency.

I am on record as saying all MPs are responsible for three basic needs of the UK peoples.

• Defence of the Realm, where we have our own independent stand-alone military deterrent.

• Food security, where we can produce enough food for our basic needs all year round.

• Energy security, where we can cater for all our energy requirements 24/7, 365 days per year.

In my opinion all MPs should have to swear an oath to this before entering Parliament.   That would keep them focused.

You cannot and should not rely on others to provide these basic needs, however good the trade arrangements appear on one day because like France today who have watched a lucrative nuclear submarine contract disappear, it can happen to us.

We need to know that bottom line where we can support ourselves in a hostile world.

Until we have a World Council with appropriate powers to reign in rogue elements into the fold, then what exists is everyone is for themselves.   It’s the reality, however unpleasant that may be from our humanitarian outlook.

When I view what I am saying I find comfort in the abundance of resources we have in this country and which lie largely untapped.   These are:

a.) Hydro-electric Power.

b.) Wave Power.

c.) Tidal Power.

d.) Focal Solar/ Photo Voltaic Power.

e.) Wind Power.

f.) Animal / Human Waste Power Generation

The British engineer is a worldwide acknowledged phenomenon and, as I asked Stephen: “I wonder what I.K. Brunel would be working on today if he was alive?”

I leave you to ponder the answer to this question.
