David Levy – Nature’s Amazing Recovery – Nov 2025
The recent hot weather and its drought left the earth scorched with baked-yellow grass and looking very sorry for itself whilst we revelled in the heat and the thought that, at least for this year, we didn’t need to fly abroad to have the weather we needed as a reward for all our efforts in life. We had a Mediterranean Summer.
Then in September, the rain returned in spades. Thunderous clouds of cumulus moisture swept in off the Atlantic, session after session and all that we had known vanished, wiped clean by the power of recuperation and Nature.
If you view Mankind as an unnecessary virus inhabiting our planet, it will not take long in planetary terms to eradicate our impact on the earth. Probably less than a million years would leave no trace of humanity.
My true regret when contemplating this scenario is personal. What a waste of an opportunity to live in harmony with Nature and the Natural World.
We have the knowledge and capacity to have done so, but chose to ignore the right thing to do over the expedient and profit-making, thus leaving a trail of mistakes, disasters and rape of the Natural World without thought of what we were doing.
Destiny has us on this pathway to oblivion, unless people engage and take responsibility. This is highly unlikely, as we are kept from the truths that reveal why and where we are. Most people are content. That is, up and until, the disasters appear at their door. Then it is all blame and finger-pointing. ‘Too late,’ I cry. ‘Too late, too late.’
Working within Marinet, I have always spoken out for optimism and all that we can do. After some decades of trying to inspire, as we were ‘accused of’ when we took part in OSPAR and worked to protect the N.E. Atlantic, I have come to the conclusion that not enough people are listening and, therefore, we are destined for a nasty revelation.
God, I hope I am wrong.
