Bawdsey in Suffolk, in common with much of the poorly defended East Anglian coastline, has also been badly hit by erosion this past year. The sand and shingle are steadily giving way to the sea, creating an almost sheer cliff in many stretches along the shoreline. The once well-trodden public footpath at East Lane, already diverted inland several years ago has now become a no-go zone
Suffolk Coastal District Council said it had been in discussion with the owners of Bawdsey Manor and other key local partners and was prepared to work with them to consider options and find possible solutions for the problem. Work to protect the cliffs, Martello Tower and two homes initiated by the East Lane Trust terminated in 2009.
