More Dredging – more erosion!

Licensed Dredging areas off Great Yarmouth

Licensed Dredging areas off Great Yarmouth

Hanson Aggregates have been granted approval by the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) and their Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA’s) to dredge and remove a further total of 73,050,000 tonnes (ca. forty-five and a half Million cubic metres) of aggregate from the offshore seabed in Areas 401/2, 242, 361A-C, 328A, 212, 240 and 328B and C laying between 3 and 13 miles offshore from Winterton to Lowestoft.

The notice stating this was placed in the Public Notices of the Great Yarmouth Mercury on Friday 4th July 2014.

The basis for ‘consideration’ can be seen by visiting https://marinelicensing.marinemanagement.org.uk/mmo/fox/live/MMO_PUBLIC_REGISTER

One would have hoped that recognition of the huge level of resultant erosion now so starkly evidenced would have brought about recognition of the consequences and that a refusal would result. And pigs can fly!
