David Levy – What is Accountability? – Dec 20

COVID 19 is an ongoing global problem with economic and social costs that nobody seems to be addressing.   If its origin had occurred in different locations, accountability would have presented a real dilemma — but it didn’t.

The finger points clearly at China.   The only question is whether it was a state sponsored biological weapon or an abhorrent result borne out of the food halls trading in exotic animal meats from all around the world.   Both possibilities have a home in Wuhan in China, and both have been accused as being the cause of the outbreak of COVID19 and other diseases such as SARS.

If it is found to be the former (state sponsored biological weapon) the global bill that could be placed at the door of China would rack up a colossal bill in the trillions of $, and the only way the world could exert justice would be through sequestration of China’s assets from across the globe.

If it is found that the market scenario was proved to be the epicentre of these diseases then China has a global moral duty to close them down.   They should eradicate the trade in all exotic breeds of animals such as snakes, reptiles, pangolins, bats, tigers and those with a greater knowledge could easily draw up the lists.

There is still the outstanding debt of global deaths caused by the latest pandemic and for that China has a responsibility to atone.   The nearest comparison that comes to mind is the price Germany and Japan paid post WWII.

The point of this blog is that I do expect our Government to engage with Chinese Government Officials to at least discuss closing these outrageous market practices and to accept a form of liability.

What say you readers?

David Levy
